Abstract:

The article looks at ways of categorizing reality within the Russian linguistic consciousness, focusing on the categories “vegetables,” “fruit,” “cereals,” “berries,” and “nuts.” It describes specific features of scientific and naive categorization, and describes differences between botanical, medical, agronomical, trade, economic, culinary, and home pictures of the world in relation to categorizing vegetable food products. The author identifies essential features of categorization, typical for each of these concepts, and indicates sources of information, which reflect specific features of categorizing reality in different pictures of the
world.
