Abstract:
The cultural peculiarities of Chinese comic discourse, outlined in the paper (with specific examples drawn from the kuaiban genre) include the appearance of the performers, use of artifacts, artistic and declamatory skills of the performers, patterns of text composition, performance location, a low level of foreign influence, and presence of particular stylistic
devices.
