Abstract:
The article looks at indicators of indirect evidentiality with the meaning of inference in texts of legislative acts as a subtype of the official style. The author argues that, despite the style conventions, both in official documents and in everyday speech these indicators are used with the same purposes, though represented in different ways. Analysis of sample texts proves that functioning of evidential utterances changes stereotypical ideas about image integrity of documents’ corporate author.
