Abstract:

The article traces changes in methodological views on teaching phonetics of a foreign language, analyzing theories which have strongly influenced the theory of teaching foreign language pronunciation, namely: the traditional theory of interference using interlingual comparisons, and the theory of cognitivism, according to which acquisition of language on the whole and of phonetics in particular corresponds to natural processes of individual development.
