Abstract:

The paper looks at English mottoes as a verbal representation of the category of value, describing the sphere of their usage as well as those structural, semantic, and stylistic peculiarities that contribute to the intensification of their pragmatic function, which includes emphasizing the significance of the object in question, reflecting cultural consciousness of the people, and conveying information about the cultural mentality of the community.
