Darya Nosikova
Abstract:
Focusing on novels by Philip Roth and Alan Lelchuk, the article looks at sports and literature as two interrelated themes of modern American literature or, to be more exact, of modern Jewish American literature, which makes it possible to conclude that sports and literature function as primary catalysts of Americanization among immigrants. The author demonstrates that sports not only provide a means of integration into the new culture but also trigger father-son conflicts and foster a major shift in immigrants’ value paradigm.
