Abstract:
The article studies the pneumatic hermeneutical tradition, used in the study of sacred texts in modern Western Protestant theology. The analysis shows that one of the reasons behind the popularity of these pneumatic hermeneutical approaches is a crisis of historical critical methodology. Western pneumatic hermeneuts postulate rejection of objective scientific values and advocate full reliance on religious feeling and experience, believing that thus they facilitate a return to the values of the Protestant Reformation.
