Abstract:
The paper discusses the contribution of Dimitri ‘Dositej’ Obradovic, a renowned Serbian author, philosopher, linguist, traveler, polyglot and the first minister of education of Serbia, to education, both in the context of Serbia’s historical tradition and the overall impact of Dositej’s work. The author looks at Dositej’s personal qualities, his pedagogical program, and his literary achievements, paying special attention to his ability to laugh at comical aspects of life and to use humor and healthy laughter in educating his contemporaries.
