SELECTING LANGUAGE CONTENT FOR CONDUCTING AN ACADEMIC DISCUSSION

Abstract:

The article examines academic discussion as a type of academic discourse. The author determines lexical and grammatical features of academic discussion, discusses the issue of vocabulary selection, outlines the criteria for selecting appropriate topics and texts, and gives examples of how they can be optimally used. The article also demonstrates means of metacommunication within academic discussion, identifying their complexity levels and expressive-emotional intensity and grouping them on the basis of particular speech acts.
