REINHOLD NIEBUHR’S HAMARTIOLOGICAL FRAMEWORK

Author’s name:

Aleksander Vorokhobov

Abstract:

The article examines Reinhold Niebuhr’s hamartiological framework, demonstrating that, in Niebuhr’s opinion, human freedom forms the ontological possibility of evil and sin. Freedom means the ability of transcending self. The experience of transcending the world and self leads to anxiety, temptation, and sin. In all its forms sin remains an expression of the human desire and will for power as it seeks to overcome the boundaries of human nature and human finiteness.
