Abstract:

The article presents an analysis of the length of monophthongs in Swiss German obtained in the course of experimental research. In comparison with standard German, temporal characteristics of Swiss German monophthongs have a more prominent character, determined by the influence of the phonological stereotypes of the dialect. The distinctive feature {±long} becomes relevant while the other acoustic characteristics of Swiss German vowels are weakened.
