THE IMAGE OF AN ITALIAN AS A PLOT-SHAPING FUNCTION IN “BLACK WOMAN” BY N.I. GRECH

Author’s name:

Natalia Ilchenko

Abstract:

The article examines the image of the Italian Alimari and its plot-shaping function in “The Black Woman” by N.I. Grech, describing the work as a synthesis of an adventure novel, a character study, and a philosophical and historical novel. It demonstrates that the mysterious image is closely related to the key events of the novel, to the vicissitudes in the life of the main character as well as to the combination of motives that make up the story. This approach allows us to prove that Alimari is the exponent of the author’s ideas and outlook.
