BUILDING UP PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCE OF STUDENTS MAJORING IN ELT THROUGH TEACHING CLASSROOM ENGLISH

Abstract:

Nizhny Novgorod Linguistics University (LUNN) undergraduate students majoring in ELT (English Language Teaching) takе a course of “Practical Classroom English” prior to their practical training at school (third year of studies) with the total input of 30 hours. An integrated spectrum of activities (mechanical language drills, reacting to possible classroom situations, microteaching lesson episodes, etc) ELT students engage in throughout the course provides a sufficient preparation for their teaching practice building up trainees’ confidence and assertiveness in the classroom.
