ON LEXICOGRAPHIC FIXATION OF FOREIGN INTERSPERSIONS

Author’s name:

Iuliia Averianova

Abstract:

The article explores lexicographic fixation of foreign interspersions in dictionaries and reference books, focusing on the need to reflect non-transliterated borrowings in common explanatory dictionaries and dictionaries of foreign words. The author proposes principal criteria for selecting such borrowings in lexicographic practice, considers the issue of Cyrillic vs. Latin for writing these borrowings as well as that of including various graphic variants, and provides a critical review of how foreign interspersions and their Cyrillic variants were reflected in 19 century dictionaries and in the latest lexicographic publications.
