Abstract:

The article explores mitigation strategies that govern communicative behavior of participants in the discourse of English political interviews. Mitigative behavior complies with the principles of politeness, non-categoricalness, and non-conflictness. The analysis of political interviews within the phenomenon of “mitigation” allows to discriminate the most frequent tactics, to determine the means of their realization, and to relate the result to the national and cultural characteristics of the American society.
