Abstract:
The article explores the history of theoretical and methodological application of two translation strategies that L. Venuti calls “domestication” and “foreignization.” To this dichotomy the authors oppose the strategy of estrangement as well as culturally-oriented strategies, drawing conclusions about the conditions for using domestication (cultural adaptation), foreignization, and estrangement in translation.
