Abstract:
Knowledge of the world is acquired by humans through the processes of categorization and conceptualization. The conceptual world image that is formed as a result of these processes comprises notions of real objects, events etc., as well as fictional concepts that reflect ideals, dreams, and social norms. Part of this is constituted by fictional linguocultural character types. The article focuses on the fictional character type “magician”, which is used to illustrate the idea of stratification of one character type into several specific subtypes with certain similar characteristics as a unifying component.
