Author’s name:

Elena Gamina

Abstract:

The article discusses the semantic structure of the sentence, offers an analysis of verbal predicates which open the slot for the patient functioning as a surface object, and demonstrates how this patient-role object functions depending on the type of the verbal predicate. The analysis attempts to throw additional light on the position of the patient in the system of semantic cases in the English language.
