Abstract:
The article deals with typological diversity of English dictionaries of proverbs, examining their purposes, functions, addressees as well as their mega, -macro- and microstructure. After analyzing existing typologies, the author proposes an original approach to their systematization, outlining classification criteria and giving special attention to modern tendencies in English national lexicography which gave rise to the development of new ways of their description.
