Abstract:
The article deals with the problem of optimizing the process of teaching foreign languages and cultures. One of the ways to solve this problem is to use feature films as an art form that promotes the development of students’ emotional competence and increases their cultural, aesthetic, linguistic, and professional knowledge. The authors conclude that the use of feature films in teaching foreign languages fosters better listening comprehension skills, provokes students’ interest in learning the language, creates verbal and non-verbal communicative situations for more productive listening, speaking, and writing in a foreign language, establishes context for studying customs, traditions, geography, etc. of foreign cultures, and gives students specific examples of the linguistic phenomena they study in class.
