Abstract:
The article discusses the semantic volume of the adjective “дружелюбный” (“friendly”) based on the etymological analysis of the word, data from lexicographic sources, and a variety of texts illustrating its usage diachronically. The analysis of the word’s semantic compatibility shows that some of its meanings and connotations are not noted by the dictionaries, and the analysis of texts featuring the adjective allows us to conclude that the adjective’s semantic volume has expanded at the present time.
