Abstract:
Language is the means of verbalizing people’s perceptions of the world through the prism of a national world view. As a result, a lot of nominations of the same objects – including ethnic nominations – acquire different connotations in different cultures, and examining ethnonyms from the linguocultural point of view paves the way for a deeper understanding of both one’s own and foreign cultures. The article analyzes stereotypes about various ethnic groups within the UK, which are reflected in the contemporary phraseology of the English language.
