Abstract:

The article examines a range of factors that influence the formation of a national character with a special emphasis on the historical, natural, cultural, linguistic, and socio-ethical background of any given nation. The author defines three such factors and postulates that, due to the historical-natural factor, the national character will depend on the nation’s specific historical situation; the cultural-linguistic factor is actively manifested through language, religion, art, and science; while the socio-ethical factor includes almost all spheres of life of a people with a dual nature. The article suggests that the most diverse and original expression of the national character can be observed in the national culture of a particular linguistic cultural community, since it is the national culture that expresses the ethnic uniqueness of any given people.
