Abstract:
The article looks at how Russian mentality was perceived by French travelers who visited Russia at various times from the 16th century until the present and penned their memoirs using the genre of a travel diary. The authors describe the progressive evolution of the traveler’s image in those books and introduce Russian literary scholars to the modern French writer Sylvain Tesson by presenting their analysis of his ‘Dans les forêts de Sibérie’.
