A METHODOLOGY FOR INTERPRETING LITERARY TEXTS (UNDEGRADUATE LEVEL, 1 AND 2 YEAR)

Abstract:

The article presents an outline for interpreting a work of fiction in the context of a college-level foreign language classroom. The outline meets all the  requirements specified in the undergraduate curriculum for foreign language instruction (first and second year) and contains the following key points: plot,  character analysis (of both the protagonist and the antagonist), the author’s position in the text; the text’s impact on the reader and how the author achieves it; the main idea; and figures of speech used in the text.
