Abstract:

The article analyzes secondary school essays that contain axiological concepts present in popular proverbs and sayings, and studies the usage of these  proverbs and sayings in typical students’ written speech. The texts of the essays reflect students’ interpretation of such axiological concepts as honor,  conscience, hard work, unselfishness, and justice, and, since proverbs and sayings function as preparatory materials for writing essays and serve as helpful tools for describing these concepts, the conscious use of paremiological units allows students to develop their ideas more fully and describe their understanding  of various axiological concepts more accurately and effectively. The article also points out a number of difficultes related to students’ use of paremiological  material and outlines specific ways of addressing these difficulties in the classroom.
