Abstract:
The article examines and compares existing approaches to assessing university faculty’s achievements in teaching, research / scholarship, and academic service as part of their professional in-service training and development, and promotes the competency-based approach as the optimal assessment of these achievements. The paper outlines the goals of competency-based assessment, describes its procedures and assessment criteria, and substantiates its relevance in enhancing the quality of modern higher education.
