Abstract:
The article analyses the current state of language situation in the North Caucasus and evaluates the main trends of language policy in the republics of the region. It briefly describes the history of language situation and language policy in the North Caucasus from 1920 until the present day and examines the effect of language policy in the bilingual situation of the North Caucasus and the way it has affected the use and role of the Russian language. The author concludes by presenting a number of solutions to the current language situation in the North Caucasus in the context of national policy in the republics of the region.
