Abstract:
The present article looks at innovative practices of formation and development of intercultural competence of international specialists, connected with either teaching Russian or doing academic research in the Russian language and culture, who have been given an opportunity for professional training in an authentic environment in Russia within the framework of the Federal Project “Summer Institute for Teachers and Researchers.” The authors present the program, developed for the Federal Project by experts from N. A. Dobrolyubov State Linguistic University in Nizhny Novgorod (which served as one of the sites of the Federal Project in 2024), analyze its structure and content, and describe the content blocks in terms of their themes, practical components, and social and cultural significance. It is emphasized that the formation of a certain level of intercultural competence, interpreted as an individual’s integrative ability to recognize and understand another worldview and culture, must necessarily include cultural content. Rapprochement of different peoples and cultures is best facilitated by project-based activities in international groups. Therefore, training in an authentic environment with the opportunity to get acquainted with different Russian cities within the framework of the program gives a significant impetus for the formation and development of intercultural competence of program participants. The diversity of topics covered within the program, its modular structure and innovative project-based approach to training, coupled with the high professional level of the program’s facilitators, ensure successful formation and development of intercultural competence of its participants.
