Abstract:
The article suggests a universal approach to explicating the worldview shared by a particular linguistic-cultural community. The approach is termed sublanguage-sensitive and consists in modelling the culturally specific features of language consciousness from a standpoint of typical communicative situations pertaining to various practical or institutional spheres and integrated into respective sublanguages as a norm. The latter is viewed as an auxiliary coding system supplementing the functional language system because, as stated in the article, each communicative situation is constructed in accordance with a particular scenario, while the specific grammar and lexis which a sublanguage uses to express the relations within the given situation are selected following the universally accepted convention as to how to behave and what to say in it. Cultural linguistics is approached as centered around text, i.e. attempting to locate the standard collective semiotic entities employed by linguistic communities. These entities are essentially super-texts or, invariant schematic constructs. The model of cultural linguistics presented in the article incorporates three dimensions: the general linguistic-and-cultural space, its differentiation according to the sub-language, and its diachronic evolvement. It is concluded that the methodological boundaries of sublanguage-sensitive cultural linguistics centered around text are drawn in accordance with its situational localization and the corresponding linguistic objects, from the microstructures of lan-guage levels to macro-constructs such as supertexts and sublanguages.
