Abstract:

The article presents the features that characterize the speech of dialect speakers in a small village community. The relevance of this research is substantiated by the author’s interest and the existing need to study the current state of the dialects of the Voronezh region. The object of this study is the speech of the residents of Brodovoe. The subject of this study is the phonetic and grammatical features of the local dialect. The purpose of the article is to determine the specific features of the Brodovoe dialect of the Anninsky District of the Voronezh Region, as reflected in the worldview of rural residents. The study employed the following methods: interviewing, description, and analysis.
As a result, the dialect of the settlement is described, its prominent characteristics are: γ — fricative and г — explosive formations, turning into [x] and [k] at the end of words; iotation; dieresis, consonant dissimilation; progressive assimilation of the consonant [k] after a soft one; [x] or [xv] in place of [f]; change of the consonant [k ’] into [t’]; soft consonants in place of hard ones and hard consonants in place of soft ones; distinct affricates [ch] and [ts]; dissimilative yakanye and akanye; ikanye; preservation of the etymological *e, which has not passed into [’o]; assimilation of vowels; apheresis; elision; epenthesis; dialectal stress; loss of the neuter gender category; reduction of the particle -to; predominant use of free word order; use of dialectal and colloquial combinations; mixing of prepositions governing the accusative case; and polysynthesis in subordinate clauses of cause, among others.
The specificity of the Brodovoe dialect is predetermined by the particularities of the settlement of the area. It is concluded that in the speech of older respondents, Southern Russian features and some stable properties of the Central Russian dialect of the maternal base are traceable; the dialect currently represents a coherent system. The worldview of dialect speakers reflects village reality and various aspects of life and daily existence, including an assessment of both the past and the present.
The novelty of the study lies in the fact that it represents the living folk speech of the third decade of the 21st century as spoken by inhabitants of the northern Voronezh region, as well as a previously unexplored aspect of their worldview. The practical value of the article is that the processed, reliable dialect materials can be used to supplement the information of the “Lexical Atlas of Russian Folk Dialects” project of the Russian Academy of Sciences and can also be employed in teaching the course “Voronezh Linguistic Regional Studies” to university students and schoolchildren.
