Abstract:
The article studies semantic motivation of international terms, which make up a sizable group within modern Russian linguistic terminology, and concludes that their motivation is quite specific. The international terms which were borrowed from ancient grammars and are represented by transcribed or transliterated terms (that transferred unchanged from ancient grammars to European languages including Russian) are unmotivated labels for concepts. Conversely, the international terms that are derived from ancient transcribed terms, which came to the Russian language in the most chronologically remote periods, are motivated.
