Abstract:
Color names are extremely important in speech communication as they reflect the peculiarities of the given culture and are inseparably linked to the ethnic mentality, geography and history of the country. Color names have strong connotations and a rich associative capacity. The article considers the connotative semantics of the adjective “red” in Chinese culture, identifying the main extralinguistic sources of formation of discovered connotations and describing the functioning of the adjective “red” in Chinese phraseology.
