Abstract:
The article presents a linguo-cognitive analysis of conceptual metaphor models, which in-clude the Russian lexeme “druzhba” (“friendship”). The purpose of the research is to describe semantic transformations of the lexeme “druzhba” (“friendship”) in the models of conceptual-metaphorical reification and animation in contexts typical for the use of the word. The re-search material was taken from the Russian National Corpus, and the primary research meth-od was the method of linguo-cognitive analysis of contexts of conceptual metaphorization of abstract lexemes. It consists in detecting and subsequently interpreting cases of figurative use of the abstract lexeme “druzhba” (“friendship”) in combinations with words that belong to different parts of speech and are normally combined with nouns that denote physical or bio-logical objects, things, substances or phenomena, concrete objects the social world, etc. The paper emphasizes that these semantic transformations significantly expand the semantic con-tent of the concept “druzhba” in the Russian language picture of the world. The author corre-lates the universal and nationally specific content in how the concept “druzhba” (“friendship”) is verbally objectified and notes that the lexeme “druzhba” (“friendship”) is regularly and ac-tively used in models where conceptual metaphorization is achieved by concretization of ab-stractions. It is shown that in contexts of metaphorical reification, “druzhba” is consistently re-imagined as a concrete-sensual object, thing, substance or a phenomenon of nature; as a commodity, resource or socially significant product, as a building object, mechanism or tech-nical device; or as a container, way (route) or spatial environment that has borders. In con-texts of metaphorical animation, “druzhba” is presented as a living entity which acts actively and purposefully; as a human or supernatural being. The author concludes that the semantic transformations discovered in the process of this research go significantly beyond the scope of the conceptual content of the concept “druzhba” (“friendship”) currently reflected in lexico-graphic sources and thus may well claim the status of new cognitive features of the concept, which form its aggregate semantic volume in the Russian language picture of the world.
