Abstract:

The article discusses one of the most relevant problems of foreign language education: that of developing a modern digital foreign language textbook as a basic tool for organizing the edu-cational process in a multimedia educational context. Digital learning space has become an integral component of the modern learning paradigm, characterized by interactivity and large volumes of educational content. Even though the term “digital textbook” is fixed in the cate-gorical apparatus of modern language education, such educational resources should be charac-terized by mobile and dynamic development and thus require constant modification and mod-ernization of terms of its components and content. The article clarifies the definition of “the digital foreign language textbook”, mainly focusing on the simultaneous implementation of strategies for learner-centered and intercultural education of students. The authors analyze the relevant regulatory framework and review scholarly and methodological publications about the components and composition of a foreign language electronic textbook, identifying its main structural characteristics and proposing the following components: an introduction, an electronic table of contents, the main part, a portfolio, a comments section, and some addi-tional educational material. The main feature of the digital textbook is its modular integrative composition where all its components are connected, and nothing should be excluded from the educational process. The content of the sections should be modular in nature and charac-terized by interconnection, openness, interactivity, flexibility, intercultural orientation, learn-er-centeredness, potential for development, efficient feedback mechanisms, and overall com-pliance with the established linguo-didactic, psychological, organizational, and technical cri-teria for selecting educational content for electronic manuals. The authors note that only this approach to the organization of the structure and content of digital foreign language textbooks will ensure the effectiveness of their use as the main tool for managing the language acquisi-tion process.
