Abstract:

The article focuses on properties of film trailers seen as an important component of film discourse. The objective of the study is to describe the generic parameters of the film trailer, using the method of multimodal discourse analysis, and to define its place within the structure of film discourse, with the model of speech genre serving as the basis for such description. The author analyzes the genre-specific characteristics of the film trailer, including its compositional structure, pragmatic capabilities, and features of its linguistic expression as seen within the interplay of heterogeneous semiotic resources. The film trailer is characterized as a complex polysemiotic text. Its generic properties include the communicative goal (which is to advertise the film to the viewer) and the depersonalized images of the author and the receiver. The language expression of the trailer is characterized by its lack of formal cohesion and reliance on the non-verbal context.
