Abstract:

This article discusses the issue of implementing taxis syncretism through German procedural deverbatives. Deverbatives, when used with polysemic prepositions of adverbial semantics, act as a means of actualizing taxis syncretism which, in this paper, is understood as the realization of different taxis categorial meanings by the same deverbative nouns of procedural semantics. When combined with prepositions, they become actualizers of a number of variants of taxis categorial meanings of simultaneity / non-simultaneity. The study finds that German deverbatives as polyfunctional language units, combined with certain prepositions, realize the meanings of primary taxis and secondary taxis. When combined with prepositions of temporal semantics, they actualize the primary taxis categorial meanings of simultaneity and non-simultaneity. When used with prepositions of other adverbial semantics (modal, medial, conditional, causal, final, etc.), they act as actualizers of such secondary-taxis categorial meanings of simultaneity as modal-taxis, medial-taxis, conditional-taxis, causal-taxis, final-taxis, and others.
