Abstract:
Being part of intangible cultural heritage transmitted orally by the Turkmen people, folk proverbs and sayings of Turkmenistan are regarded as crystallization of the collective wisdom of the Turkmen working people. This is not only a reflection of the inherited folk traditions of the Turkmen ethnic group and its integration into a diverse ethnic culture, but also a living fossil of the national language and culture. The present study leans on the modern theory of labor-based education to discuss and analyze work-related ideas contained in Turkmen folk proverbs and sayings, including understanding of and attitudes to work, practical work-related patterns, and work-related value orientation. Turkmen folk proverbs and sayings attach great importance to and facilitate a deeper understanding of Turkmen labor-related values and Turkmen work spirit, work ethics, and the role of work-based education. The study also shows that Turkmen folk labor-related proverbs and sayings originated in daily work and life of the Turkmen people and thus reflect various elements of the work culture of the Turkmen people and contain traditional thinking about work as well as faith-based, spiritual values of the Turkmen people. Work-related values reflected in the folk proverbs and sayings of Turkmenistan are an important reference point for understanding the traditional labor concepts of the Turkmen people. They have a deep theoretical and practical value, since they provide a narrative space that helps to better understand the work values of the Turkmen society, possess necessary characteristics for multicultural integration, and reflect the spiritual life and ethical norms of the Turkmen people.
