Abstract:

In recent decades, many ethnic groups have displayed a growing interest towards and a turning to their national origins, including religion, and this process has brought about the return of religious vocabulary into national languages, expansion of the religious layer of the language’s vocabulary, and its popularization. The analysis of borrowed Islamic lexemes provided in the study shows an active process of adaptation of these theonyms to Russian religious texts. Along with spiritual literature published in Russian, Internet resources remain an important source of replenishing the Russian layer of theological vocabulary with Islamic terms. The purpose of the article is to examine the process of adaptation of Islamic borrowings as well as recovery of individual Muslim religious terms in the Russian language. The main sources of material for the study of how Islamiс terms function in the online media space are various Internet resources with religious, secular, and news content, and the author uses the descriptive method for his analysis.
