Abstract:

The paper analyses antonomasia models used by German journalists and other literary and media authors in describing female athletes within German media sports discourse. The author factors in the structure of sports discourse, taking into account various methodological approaches to its interpretation. The aim of the present study is to analyze the usage of antonomasia models in the representations of female athletes. The usage of specific antonomasia models in articles about German female athletes is one of the main elements of this discursive practice, as it allows to ensure the nominative function of the utterance, which is a derivative product of the nominative activity of a person as an obligatory and most important element of their awareness and objectification of the real world. The study of different ways of nomination in the language in a particular situation allows us to cognitively process the personality categories that they name and thus deepen our understanding of the processes of structuring speech, the author’s discourse regarding the subject they describe. The methodological foundation for the linguocognitive and linguocomponent analysis of the discursive practice in question is based on discursive, component, descriptive, semantic, conceptual, classification, lexico-graphical, and context-based research methods, as well as on content analysis and critical discourse analysis. The paper considers the conceptual sphere “sports,” which is regarded as one of the most productive sources of antonomasia models. The media representation of German female athletes in the sports arena is studied through structural and cognitive analyses of various ways of their linguistic nomination as well as cognitive principles used to characterize German female athletes. The study evaluates the nominative models used in discursive representations of professional female athletes in Germany. The author concludes by outlining prospects for further research of antonomasia models used for female athletes in the Russian language and comparing them to those used in the German language sports discourse.
