Abstract:
Ethical competence is a major component in the development of a teacher’s professional skill set and character, its relevance enhanced by the modern school’s need for teachers who are considerate, sensitive to students’ interests, and capable of creating conditions conducive to learners’ growth. The article outlines social and pedagogical foundations and prerequisites for developing ethical competence of future teachers, lists key ethical categories relevant to teaching, discusses the specific content of teachers’ ethical competence, and explores basic ways of achieving this competence in the context of a university-level teacher training program.
