Abstract:

The paper discusses the terms “culture specific words,” “words with no direct equivalents in other languages” and “lacuna,” describes different types of German words with no direct equivalents in other languages, and lists techniques used in their translation, based on the Russian translation of the novel “At the Shorter End of Sonnenallee” by the modern German writer Thomas Brussig.
