Abstract:

Focusing on the development of social and cultural skills in teaching foreign languages, the article defines the essence and content of targeted social and cultural competencies, discusses the didactic potential of reading in acquiring these competencies, and presents a number of specific communication skills, involved in teaching reading with the purpose of developing these social and cultural competencies.
