Abstract:
The article looks at the evolution of an artist’s worldview and mentality in the multicultural context of the USA, based on Alan Lelchuk’s novel “Brooklyn Boy,” with a particular emphasis on the opposition “native” vs. “alien” (or “own” vs. “other”) and the “American-ness” of an individual consciousness, formed in the context of a continuous dialog between various cultures.
