Author’s name:

Alina Karpova

Abstract:

The article examines the model of the world based on 18th century concepts as presented in Catherine Fisher’s Incarceron series. Authors frequently utilize concepts and categories typical for a given time period in order to accurately describe a society belonging to a particular historical period, complete with its way of thinking. However, in Fisher’s novel history is used as a frame: time becomes a contingent category whose content can vary depending on the artistic intention of the author. Fischer does not seek to describe the past accurately; rather, in this case, the writer’s method can be described as a representation.
