Abstract:

The article looks at two famous representatives of the French literature at the turn of the 20th century, Maurice Barres and Marcel Proust, in terms of their attitude to the national idea as seen in their literary work, popular articles, and letters, and identifies different tendencies in understanding France’s political realities of the time.
