Abstract:
This article studies semantic loans, adopted as a result of language contact. Looking specifically at the Czech verb táhnout and the German verb ziehen, it proposes a set of methods, which help to identify loan meanings of a polysemic word and to see whether they are a consequence of language contact. These methods include comparison with equivalents from other slavonic languages as well as examining earlier stages of the development of the language in question.
