Author’s name:

Оlga Lukmanova

Abstract:

The article is an introduction to the seven published novels of “the third inkling,” poet, writer, dramatist and literary critic Charles Williams (1886–1945). It defines their genre as that of religious and mystical thrillers, outlines their plots, main themes and typical characters, and describes a number of other features that may become important keys to their further study and interpretation, including their multiple target groups, the nature of their intertextuality, and their clear purpose of spiritual direction.
