Abstract:
The article investigates some semantic peculiarities of phraseologisms with regard to their functioning in British and American political discourse. It also considers variations and transformations of phraseological units. The latter include expansion, substitution, reduction and blending. Transformations revive metaphors embedded in phraseologisms to fit some specific political context.
