NATIONAL TRANSLATION TRADITIONS IN ITALY

Author’s name:

Elena Sergienko

Abstract:

The article describes the translation tradition which has developed in Italy and displays a tendency towards artistic reinterpretation of the original and its elaboration from the perspective of the receiving culture. This attitude towards translation as a hermeneutical process of interpretation of original texts was formed back in ancient Rome and went on to gain popularity in the following centuries. It postulates that translation should seek to create a piece of literary art adapted to the new cultural context.
